How we choose products

A plain-language note on why a product appears on this site, how affiliate links work, and what sharing does. Last updated September 11, 2026.

The short version

Family Growth Project recommends products the way a friend would: for a specific practice, for a specific age, with a reason. Every product on this site connects to a practice on the Launch Trajectory. Most families can run the practice with what they already have at home. A product appears only when it makes the practice easier, stickier, or more memorable.

How a product gets here

An assistant reads each article's practice and proposes a small number of products that fit. A person reviews every proposal and approves, edits, or declines it. We keep the catalog small on purpose, and we retire products that stop earning their place. We do not accept payment for placement, and no brand can buy a spot. When a product is our own, it carries a "Made by FGP" label.

Affiliate links

Some links on Family Growth Project are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This helps keep the site free of advertising. Our recommendations are never influenced by commission rates. When the same book is available at an independent bookstore and a large retailer, we link to the independent bookstore first.

As an Amazon Associate, Family Growth Project earns from qualifying purchases.

Some links are provided through Sovrn Commerce, a service that connects publishers with retailers. Product links open the retailer's own site in a new tab; the button always names the retailer before you click.

Prices

We show a price range rather than an exact price, because prices change and we would rather be roughly right than precisely stale. The retailer's page has the current price.

Sharing

When you share a product from this site, the link you share points back to Family Growth Project rather than to a store. If your friend buys through it, that purchase supports the site in the same way your own would. We record that a share happened and which button was used. We do not record who you are or who you sent it to.

What we will not recommend

Supplements or "brain-boosting" foods, diet or appearance products for children, surveillance devices, ad-funded apps aimed at kids, anything sold as a cure for a diagnosis, and anything from a brand with credible child-safety, labor, or privacy problems. If you see something on this site that you think crosses one of those lines, tell us.

Children

Product links are written for parents and caregivers and appear only in parent-facing pages. Inside The Parent Investor, purchases are made by the parent.

Audio episodes

Family Growth Insights, the audio edition of this library, is made from our published articles. For each episode a script is written from the article as a conversation between a parent and a guide, then checked against the same editorial standard as the article: outcomes are stated only as the named researchers reported them, the practice matches the article, and nothing is promised. The two voices are generated with AI (ElevenLabs) from that script; no person is being imitated, and every episode says so at the close. A person reviews any episode the checks flag before it is published. The article is always the source of record: if the audio and the article ever differ, the article is right, and we will re-record the episode. Transcripts are published with every episode.
